Which coin and network should you use?

Each coin is accepted on one network only, except USDT. The network fee is always paid by the sending wallet, in the asset shown here.

Why pay for a domain with crypto?

Because a crypto top-up asks for no card and no bank details. A card payment links an order to your name and your bank. Sealname never asks for card or bank data, so it never stores any.

What a crypto payment changes for you:

  • No card, no PayPal, no bank transfer. Sealname accepts none of them, so no bank data is ever linked to your account.
  • No ID and no KYC. Sealname never asks for an ID document, a selfie, a phone number or a postal address. Each domain needs one verified email, never published.
  • One balance for every domain. Top up once, then pay new domains, renewals and transfers from the same balance.
  • One price per extension. The first year costs the same as each renewal: a .com is $12.99/year.

Crypto is not invisible. The blockchains of the coins we accept are public, and an exchange knows which withdrawals are yours. Sealname sees the address that paid, never who owns it. To keep a payment private, pay from a wallet you control.

Which coin should you choose?

Choose the coin you already hold, on the network your wallet uses. If you hold several, these points can help:

  • You want to pay an exact dollar amount: use a stablecoin, USDT or USDC. Its value does not move between sending and crediting.
  • You want a low network fee: USDT on Tron, Solana and Litecoin have low fees. On Tron, the wallet needs some TRX (or energy) to pay the fee.
  • You hold Bitcoin: pay in BTC. Fees rise when the Bitcoin network is busy, so send with a normal fee and without delay.
  • You use an Ethereum wallet: pay in ETH, USDT (ERC-20) or USDC. The gas fee is paid in ETH and is higher than on Tron.

The price of BTC, ETH, SOL and LTC moves while a transaction waits. The payment page locks the crypto amount for a limited time, so send it quickly.

How do you pay for a domain with crypto?

Five steps, the same for every coin. The table shows the confirmations each network needs before your balance is credited.

  1. Top up $25 or more

Choose the amount and the coin (BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC). The crypto amount and its rate are locked for 30 minutes.

  2. Send it to the address shown, on the exact network

The payment page shows our deposit address for the coin and network you picked: BTC on Bitcoin, USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), USDC on Ethereum (ERC-20), ETH on Ethereum, SOL on Solana, LTC on Litecoin. Send only that coin on that network: funds sent on another network or in another coin can’t be recovered. The network fee comes on top of the amount.

  3. Send the exact amount shown, then click “I’ve sent the payment”

Each top-up has its own exact amount (down to the last decimals): that is how your payment is found and matched to your account automatically. Nothing else to send us.

  4. Credited after the network confirmations

Your balance is credited once the network has confirmed the transaction. Usual times:

    CryptoNetworkConfirmationsUsual time
    BTCBitcoin2≈ 20 min
    USDTTron (TRC-20)20≈ 1 min
    USDTEthereum (ERC-20)12≈ 5 min
    USDCEthereum (ERC-20)12≈ 5 min
    ETHEthereum12≈ 5 min
    SOLSolana1≈ 1 min
    LTCLitecoin6≈ 15 min
  5. One balance for every domain

If you started from a domain search, the domain is registered in your name as soon as the top-up is credited, with WHOIS privacy switched on where the registry allows it. What is left stays on your balance for renewals, transfers and new domains. Unused balance stays on your account and never expires, and it pays for new domains, renewals and transfers, but it is not refundable.

Closed the tab? The pending top-up stays under Billing in your account: open it to see the address and the exact amount again.

How do you avoid a payment mistake?

Check these five points before you send:

  1. The wrong network. USDT on Tron and USDT on Ethereum are not interchangeable. USDC is accepted on Ethereum (ERC-20) only, and SOL means native SOL, not tokens on Solana.
  2. A wrapped or bridged coin. Wrapped BTC on Ethereum, or ETH on a layer-2 network such as Arbitrum, Optimism or Base, is not credited.
  3. An amount that does not match. Send the exact amount shown. If an exchange takes its fee from the amount sent, the amount that arrives will be too low.
  4. No coin left for the fee. The fee comes on top of the amount. A Tron wallet needs TRX, and an Ethereum wallet needs ETH.
  5. A late payment. The crypto amount is locked for a limited time on the payment page. Send it before that time runs out.

Funds sent on another network or in another coin cannot be recovered. If you are unsure, write to [email protected] before you send. Email replies within 12 hours, 7 days a week, including help with DNS, transfers and renewals.

Paying for a domain with crypto: FAQ

What happens if I send crypto on the wrong network?

The payment cannot be credited, and the funds cannot be recovered. Each coin is accepted on one network only, except USDT, which works on Tron (TRC-20) and Ethereum (ERC-20). Pick the network on the payment page first, then pick the same network in your wallet or exchange.

Can I get a refund of my crypto balance?

No. Unused balance stays on your account and never expires, and it pays for new domains, renewals and transfers, but it is not refundable. Top up what you plan to spend on registrations, renewals and transfers; the minimum is $25. Check the price list before you choose the amount, since every extension has one yearly price.

What is the minimum crypto top-up?

The minimum top-up is $25, in any accepted coin, and you can top up again at any time. The balance then pays every order on your account. A .com costs $12.99/year. Whatever the order does not spend stays on your balance for a renewal or another domain.

Can I pay straight from an exchange?

Yes. An exchange withdrawal works if it sends the exact amount to the address shown, on the right network. If the exchange takes its withdrawal fee from the amount, add the fee so the right amount arrives. The exchange knows the withdrawal is yours, so a wallet you control is more private.

How long does a crypto payment take?

It depends on the network. Your balance is credited once the transaction has the required number of confirmations: 1 on Solana, 2 on Bitcoin, 6 on Litecoin, 12 on Ethereum and 20 on Tron. The table under How do you pay shows the usual time for each.

Does Sealname accept Monero, cards or PayPal?

No. Sealname accepts BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC only. Monero (XMR), cards, PayPal and bank transfers are not accepted. If you wanted to pay in XMR, the Monero page explains what you can use instead and how to keep a crypto payment private.

Are renewals paid in crypto too?

Yes. Renewals, transfers and new domains are all paid from the same crypto balance. A renewal costs the same as the first year: $12.99/year for a .com. Each domain in the client area has an auto-renew switch, so keep enough balance for the renewals you expect.

Does Sealname know who paid?

Sealname sees the address that paid and the transaction, never who owns the wallet. It never asks for your name, an ID document or bank details. The blockchain is public, though, and an exchange knows its own customers. Read what data we collect for the full list.
